Dual Enrollment students will follow the policies set forth in their course expectations and syllabus. You may obtain copies from your course information on Canvas.
Assignments and grading in a nutshell: Assignments must be turned in ON TIME. Late assignments will suffer a SIGNIFICANT point deduction. Unless there are extenuating circumstances, I will not take assignments over a week late; the student will get a zero for assignments past due over a week. I do this because college English is fast-paced with a great deal of long assignments. It takes time and stamina to grade a number of essays and projects in a fair manner. I need to grade and provide feedback quickly, and I can't do that if I'm having to retro-grade assignments. I also do this to prepare students for more rigorous college studies. Their future college instructors will not allow late assignments either, most not even a week late. If a student will be out, it is their responsibility to make sure I still get their assignment. Please check handouts on Canvas for more information involving grading policies, attendance expectations, and more.
Conduct policy: As this is a college credit course, my expectations for this particular class vary somewhat from my other classes; I feel like as a college course, I should treat you in more of the same manner that I treat my on-campus college classes. I will allow cell phone use in this class because often times, cell phones will assist in the projects that we will be doing. However, if this leniency is abused (students being consistently off-task and/or not paying attention during lectures), I will rethink this policy. I should not and will not compete for your attention. And as a college student, you should be able to self-regulate and prioritize your tasks.
